Gentiana Schools
The Gentiana Schools are located in the poverty-stricken Kawangware settlement on the outskirts of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.
The kindergarten and Gentiana Primary School are open exclusively to children from the poorest backgrounds who also struggle with certain learning difficulties. The Junior Secondary School, as the next level of education, is run in the same spirit and with the same mission. Through creative teaching methods, plenty of attention, and perseverance, disadvantaged children are educated so that they can recognize the path to the next levels of education—middle school, vocational school, technical college, and university—as realistic possibilities.
The Gentiana Schools offer all levels of elementary education: kindergarten, which lasts two years; primary school, which lasts six years; and secondary school, which lasts three years. The Gentiana Technical College, which offers training in electrical technology, is also part of the system. In addition, the Gentiana Schools provide meals for the children on school days and operate a social welfare and scholarship program. The school follows the curricula of the Kenyan Ministry of Education.
