Home from Home

Unemployment, poverty and HIV/Aids in South Africa have led to rising numbers of orphans and unsupervised children. The majority are accommodated in large institutions that are overwhelmed by the needs of children. Home from Home therefore offers support in the care and supervision of children in need. The organisation operates a network of care places for orphans and abused, neglected and unprotected children in socially neglected villages in South Africa. Small units comprising no more than six children offer a situation very similar to a family. The children thus grow up in their villages of origin in a familiar cultural environment.

The Home from Home Trust is a registered non-profit organisation whose non-profit character is recognised by the authorities. The organisation has developed care structures in the Western Cape province which are growing steadily. At present it runs over 30 small homes.
